Lesson 7

Dear Teni,
Thank you for your seventh message. My comments and corrections follow.
Sincerely,
Prof. Sue Garreis

Dear Prof. Susan Garreis
Hello
Thank you for your reply and your corrections.

I did this on Friday the 13th, but it was a lucky day for me.
-> Thank heavens brought luck to you.

The laptop was five years old.
-> I think windows will run very slow. I think you need to open up, cleaning fan, ram and dirt. Or you can reinstall the windows.
> At five years of age the laptop is just ready to die. I had already installed a new motherboard two years ago. Even though it is inconvenient, it was better that I bought a new computer. I hope this one lasts for five years! It has a touch screen. That is an interesting thing for me to get used to. Does your computer have a touch screen? Does your phone have a touch screen? Many younger people in the US use phones with touch screens.

Later I will sort through and upload my photos. I transferred about ten thousand to the backup DVDs! I had no idea I had so many. I've got a lot of photo sorting to do!
-> Sorting 10.000 photos??? If I do, I thought I would take 1 month.
> I know there are many duplicates of the photos. The computer has several places to store pictures. I never really figure out where the photos go. So sorting the photos transferred will mean eliminating the duplicates. I probably have about three thousand photos actually. And it will take me more than a month to sort them. I am in no hurry to do that. The photos are safe on the DVDs, so I can take my time. I take many pictures of my flowers. They will be easy to sort.
Is it easy for you to get a new phone or computer and transfer the old stuff to the new machine?
-> I can say as a lover of technology, especially computer. I love to learn and practice on the computer. I have not learned about the computer courses yet. What I know about computers is the result of searching and learning on the internet. While in Japan, I often use "Teamviewer" to fix computer for my friend in Vietnam when it crashed.
> Good for you that you can figure out how to "look under the hood" and fix computers. I had to have a neighbor show me how to install the two printers I have. He is a "techie" (one skilled in the software and hardware of computers and their peripherals). There are no disk drives on this computer, so I was at a loss as to how to install the drivers necessary for the printers. Apparently one goes to the manufacturer's website and downloads the drivers necessary to run any peripheral. It took him a little bit of time to do it, so I didn't feel so bad after all. We both agree that we like Windows 7 better than Windows 8. I remember that I had a lot of trouble adjusting to a Windows environment from a DOS environment. Windows 8 and a touchscreen is another big step. I'll get used to it eventually, too.

With best wishes
Nguyen Hung Thien

The next lesson is attached. In this lesson we finish the Income Statement.
This weekend I have company. Two of my grandchildren came to visit me. Sean is twelve years old. His sister Emma is nine. They came down on Saturday night and will return home Sunday night. On Sunday we will eat donuts from their favorite place, The Donut Shack. You can see some pictures here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Donut-Shack/116083068447615. What is your favorite snack food?
We will garden a little bit. Emma loves to garden. The humidity and rain have made the weeds grow rapidly, so we have plenty of work to do. We will also go to the neighborhood beach. The kids will play in the sand and watch the river view. Many people in the neighborhood own a boat. The boats are docked on the river. I like to look at the boats, but I don't want to own one. They are a lot of work to maintain.
We will eat Chinese food at one of my favorite restaurants, the China Garden. http://arnoldchinagarden.com/. What is your favorite Japanese food? Do you have a favorite local place to eat? Can you find Vietnamese food in the Chiba area?
